Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a strong stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. The myth is that this supposed “Black Ops” was then aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast. Presumably such a beer would raise a rich, fluffy dark brown head and it would combine chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like bourbon notes. A beer like that would be mighty nice, but it would be hard to make more than few cases – it could never be sold or released to the public. They say that the brewmaster revealed the beer to a few other people at the brewery only after it had been barreled. The rumor going around is that the brewery plans to drink the beer themselves over the holidays and give some to their family and friends. That’s what they say. But frankly, there’s no evidence for any of this. This beer is obviously a figment of people’s fervent imaginations. People tend to get loopy around the holidays. Everyone go home now – there’s nothing to see here.

Every year since 1975 the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer have brewed a distinctive and unique Christmas Ale, which is available from early November to mid-January. The Ale’s recipe is different every year—as is the tree on the label—but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons, appears born anew. Our tree for 2013 is the California White Fir. It was hand drawn by local artist James Stitt, who has been creating Christmas Ale labels for us since 1975.

Alaskan Barley Wine is a full bodied ale, deep mahogany in color and brewed with an array of complementing malts to achieve its high original gravity. Multiple hop additions in the boil and dry hopping during fermentation provide contrast to the big malt character resulting in the smooth balance that distinguishes this specialty brew. Like many fine wines, Alaskan Barley Wine may be aged in the bottle and gains deeper malt complexity and smoothness over time.

The History of Blanche de NamurWitbier or bìere blanche ("white beer") is a wheat ale style that originated in Belgium hundreds of years ago. Usually made from unmalted wheat with barley malt, witbiers have a hazy pale color; they are seasoned not only with hops but with spices - Belgian brewers have added herbs, spices, and fruit to beer for centuries. After fading in popularity in the early 1900s, witbier sales have roared back during the past 20 years.
Blanche de Namur is made from barley malt, unmalted wheat, hops, and the classic witbier spices: coriander and bitter orange peel. It also has a touch of brewer's licorice. Hopping levels are fairly low to allow the spices to shine through; the yeast strain is traditional, and Blanche de Namur is bottle-conditioned. The beer is named after Princess Blanche of Namur - daughter of John, Count of Namur - who was born in the region near the brewery in 1320. Blanche captivated King Magnus IV of Sweden when he visited around 1335: she married him and was crowned the following year, becoming Queen of Sweden and Norway. In memory of her "sweetness, beauty, and delicacy," the brewery dedicated their witbier to her.
TasteInviting, refreshing aroma and flavor; fruitiness from a very traditional yeast strain; and smooth rich body with a bit of thirst-quenching acidity in the finish. The glowing, golden hazy color of Blanche de Namur comes from the use of wheat and from bottling with live brewer's yeast.

“We took our time to develop a unique brewing technique for the Imperial India Pale Ale,” says Upslope Brewing founder Matt Cutter, “Our brewers developed a process for adding hops to the beer, that maximizes the hop flavor and aroma without producing astringent or grassy flavors, typically associated with a highly hopped ale.”
